"Ted Cruz’s momentum in Iowa is getting all the attention," said Dean Debnam, PPP's president. "But Donald Trump is on the upswing there as well."
On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton continues to be the favorite among Iowa voters, finishing with 52 percent in the latest survey.
Here's how her challengers fared:
- Bernie Sanders: 34 percent.
- Martin O'Malley: 7 percent.
"New Hampshire is still looking like a toss-up for the Democrats," Debnam said. "But Hillary Clinton increasingly appears to be in a pretty strong position in Iowa."
Iowa holds its caucuses on Feb. 1 in the first test of the 2016 presidential primary cycle.
PPP surveyed 522 Republican voters and 526 Democrats. The margin of error for both samples is 4.3 percent.
