In the wake of the renewal of the FBI's email investigation, Hillary Clinton supporters have been lagging behind in enthusiasm, but the Democratic nominee has an edge in early voting, the latest Washington Post-ABC News Tracking poll revealed.

While 53 percent Trump supporters said they were "very enthusiastic" about him, Clinton enthusiasts comprised 43 percent. The level of excitement is comparatively lower to 2012 where 64 percent of President Barack Obama supporters said they were "very enthusiastic" about him while Mitt Romney was behind by just 3 points.

The survey also showed that both Donald Trump and Clinton remain almost tied:

  • Trump: 46 percent
  • Clinton: 45 percent

It was a photo finish for Clinton-Trump — 48 percent to 47 percent when third-party candidates were asked to choose between Clinton-Trump.

The poll revealed that more than 1 in 5 likely voters surveyed had already voted (21 percent), while one-quarter said they planned to vote early or by mail (24 percent,) and a slight majority plan to vote in-person on Election Day, according to The Washington Post.

Other results show:

  • Clinton leads 54-41 percent among early voters, while Trump is ahead by a 50-39 percent margin among those going to vote on Election Day;
  • Among those who voted early, 38 percent comprise senior/older citizens, 18 percent in the 40-64 age bracket and 17 percent of voters younger than that;
  • More women than men have opted to vote early 26 to 19 percent. While 28 percent voters in urban areas compared with suburban and rural voters 19 percent and 22 percent.

The poll, which was conducted by telephone from Oct. 27 to 30, had 1,773 adult participants. The margin of sampling error is plus or minus 2.5 points.
