The late pop singer Prince was hospitalized for a drug overdose just six days before his death Thursday, TMZ reports.

Quoting "multiple sources," the website said that when Prince's private jet made an emergency landing in Moline, Ill. last Friday, the singer was rushed by ambulance to a hospital where he was given a "save shot," which is normally given to counteract the effects of an opiate.

The singer's representatives said at the time that Prince was suffering from the flu. TMZ founder and editor Harvey Levin said Thursday on "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren" that it sounded strange that Prince couldn't have "toughed it out" another 48 minutes if he simply had the flu.

TMZ said Prince was advised to stay in the hospital for 24 hours, but his people balked when he couldn't be given a private room. He was released after just three hours, and at least one source said he "was not doing well."

Prince's representatives had not responded to requests for comment.
