Quinnipiac: Trump Tops Rubio 2-1 in Florida; Ties Kasich in Ohio

Donald Trump is ahead of Florida Sen. Marco Rubio by a two-to-one margin in his home state's GOP presidential primary and tied with Ohio Gov. John Kasich in Ohio's primary, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll released Monday, while Hillary Clinton tops Bernie Sanders for the Democratic nomination in both states.

By the numbers in Florida:

Republicans:
  • Trump, 46 percent;
  • Rubio, 22 percent;
  • Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, 14 percent;
  • Kasich, 10 percent.
Democrats:
  • Hillary Clinton, 60 percent;
  • Bernie Sanders, 34 percent.
By the numbers in Ohio:

Republicans:
  • Trump, Kasich, 38 percent;
  • Cruz, 16 percent;
  • Rubio, 3 percent.
Democrats:
  • Clinton, 51 percent;
  • Sanders, 46 percent.
The polls show that Trump's lead over Rubio's has not changed much since March 9, when he led the Florida senator by 45-22 percent.

However, Kasich's numbers have risen since March 9, when he was behind Trump by 38-31 percent. The Clinton-Sanders numbers have also not changed significantly since the last poll.

In other Florida numbers:

Republicans:
  • Women: Trump over Rubio, 41-25 percent;
  • Men: Trump over Rubio, 52-20 percent;
  • Tea Party: Trump, 47-13 percent;
  • Moderate or liberal voters, Trump, 44-24 percent.
Democrats:
  • Women, Clinton, 60-35 percent;
  • Men, 60-33 percent;
  • Very liberal Democrats, Sanders, 57-39 percent.
In other Ohio numbers:

Republicans:
  • Men: Trump over Kasich, 40-33 percent;
  • Women: Kasich, 44-37 percent;
  • Tea Party: Trump, 36-18 percent; 38 percent for Cruz;
  • White evangelicals, tied 33-33 for Trump and Kasich.
Democrats:
  • Women: Clinton over Sanders,  56-39 percent;
  • Men: Sanders, 55-43 percent;
  • Very liberal: Sanders, 64-36 percent;
  • Somewhat liberal: Sanders, 50-46 percent;
  • Moderate or conservative, 59-38 percent.
The polls were conducted between March 8-13, and included 615 Republicans in Florida, with a margin of error of plus or minus four percentage points and 519 Florida Democrats, with a margin of error of 4.3 points.

In Ohio, the polls included 721 Republican voters, with a 3.7-point margin of error, and 543 Ohio Democrats, with a 4.2-point margin of error.
