A new poll from Rasmussen Reports shows Donald Trump as the leading candidate in the nation, followed closely by Hillary Clinton, with third-party candidates Gary Johnson and Jill Stein trailing in single-digits.
According to the results:
- Trump: 42 percent;
- Clinton: 40 percent;
- Johnson: 7 percent;
- Stein: 2 percent.
Only a week ago, Clinton topped Trump, but both she and Johnson have fallen slightly:
- Trump: 39 percent;
- Clinton: 43 percent;
- Johnson: 9 percent;
- Stein: 2 percent.
Rasmussen notes that the survey was conducted after Clinton's recent appearance at a 9/11 ceremony in New York City, where she appeared unsteady and left early.
Later, her campaign announced that she'd been diagnosed with pneumonia, but the incident fueled speculation about her health and sparked a debate on the health of presidential candidates.
According to The Huffington Post, Clinton still leads nationally, citing a Quinnipiac University poll from Wednesday, and a CBS/New York Times poll from Thursday. The Post does point out that their supporter demographics are largely unchanged.
Clinton still leads with women, but Trump has an equal lead among men. Trump has very little support from African-American voters, but Clinton lags behind in support from non-Hispanic whites.
Polls from Bloomberg Politics and CNN show Trump leading in key battleground states like Ohio and Florida.
