Donald Trump's pathway to victory appears to be strong, as the crucial states of Florida, North Carolina, Ohio, and Iowa are "for us" and others will follow, Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said Monday.
"You have got the four big states for us, Florida, North Carolina, Ohio, Iowa," Priebus told Fox News' "America's Newsroom" program. "That gets you to 259. Then you have to find 11."
Those could involve any combination of states, such as Nevada and New Hampshire, or it could just take a bigger state such as Michigan or Pennsylvania "which would be a game changer completely," the chairman said.
The scenario isn't a stretch, Priebus told the program. "But we have got to be good. Donald Trump himself has always said, on the map, they start with an advantage. But if you look at what's happening around the country and how this thing is closing, you want to be the candidate with the wind at their backs. Right now, Donald Trump has wind at his back."
Further, Priebus said, the polls are all over the place, and some are too close to call, so the race comes down to the ground game.
"Look at early vote," said Priebus. "We are 100,000 votes ahead of where we were four years ago. Mitt Romney lost by 70,000. In North Carolina, [we are] 20,000 votes ahead of where we were. They are bleeding in Ohio and Iowa. They are nowhere near their numbers of four years ago."
There are also several serious Senate races, Priebus continued, which will help with the presidential race.
"So working together, I think we have beaten them," he said. "If you look at the RNC versus the DNC, no one calculates that matchup. We are far bigger than the DNC has ever been the last four years."
