The House Select Committee on Benghazi has known about former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's private email account since August, but has been stonewalled by the State Department in getting access to it, committee member Rep. Mike Pompeo told Fox News.
"I can assure you that since the moment we have known about the set of email accounts, we have been working diligently to get these answers," the Kansas Republican said Thursday on
Fox News Channel's "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren."
"We have been obstructed from getting this information from the Department of State," he said. "It turns out when they gave us answers to questions, they didn't tell us that we didn't have what they were looking for."
Pompeo said the committee has done everything it can to make sure all documents have been preserved and that they are able to get access to them as quickly as possible.
He called it the "height of hypocricy" that
Clinton sent a Tweet late Wednesday night, saying she had asked the State Department to release all her emails as quickly as possible.
"She can release them herself. They are on her own personal email server," Pompeo said. "She can have them to the American people in the next 20 minutes."
