Former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani says Donald Trump has improved as a presidential candidate and is good for the Republican Party.
Giuliani made his observations Tuesday on Fox News Channel's
"On the Record with Greta Van Susteren," where a viewer poll found that 77 percent think Trump is good for the GOP.
"Make it 78 percent," Giuliani said. "The reality is he's gotten better as a candidate. This man learns like that. It's unbelievable."
In the quarter century he has known the billionaire real estate developer, Giuliani said he's found him to be a "very nice man" who is philanthropic. Perhaps because of his role on "The Apprentice," he is seen as tough, Giuliani said, suggesting that Trump smile more during his interviews.
Trump has said his skill in negotiating would have prevented what he and other Republicans have termed a bad nuclear deal with Iran, and Giuliani agreed.
Secretary of State John Kerry should have walked out on the Iranians like President Ronald Reagan did on former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev at Reykjavik during the 1986 nuclear talks, the former mayor said.
"Donald would have taken that piece of paper, thrown it in his face, and said, go to hell," Giuliani said.
"What America needs right now is a guy who can fight for us," he said, adding that in President Barack Obama, "We have somebody who has alienated all of our friends and ingratiated our enemies."
