Democratic presidential candidates Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton on Sunday accused GOP front-runner Donald Trump of inciting his followers to violence through his words and actions.
"I hesitate to say this, because I don't really like to disparage public officials, but Donald Trump is a pathological liar," Sanders said during a CNN Democratic forum.
Sanders was referring to Trump accusing Sanders' supporters of infiltrating his rallies to stir up trouble.
"Our campaign does not believe in and never will encourage anybody to disrupt anything," Sanders told moderator Jake Tapper.
Sanders said he can't control the actions of every person who supports him, but added that Trump is actually encouraging violent acts by saying he is considering paying the legal fees of a supporter who punched an anti-Trump protestor, then said next time he might have to kill him.
"What that means is that Donald Trump is literally inciting violence with his supporters," Sanders said. "He is saying that if you go out to beat somebody up, that is OK, I will pay the legal fees. That is an outrage and I would hope that Mr. Trump tones it down big time and tells his supporters that violence is not acceptable in the American political process."
Sanders said he agrees with Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, one of Trump's GOP rivals, that someone could get killed.
"We have to put an end to this," he said. "Trump has to get on the TV and tell his supporters that violence in the political process in America is not acceptable, end of discussion."
Clinton agreed, saying that Trump has only been incidint violence, "but applauding violence."
Trump, she said, "has lit the fire and then he throws his hands up and claims that he shouldn't be held responsible – and he should be held responsible."
