Actor Sean Penn says the fiery rhetoric from GOP presidential contenders makes him miss President George W. Bush.
The liberal activist told an RSA computer security conference in San Francisco on Friday that "the defecation on America that is the Republican debate" makes him nostalgic for the 43rd president – something Penn says he "finds amazing,"
USA Today reports.
Asked by RSA program chair Hugh Thompson who Sean was backing in the race for the White House, the actor "grimaced," USA Today reports.
"So many of them truly want to hate each other, want to bottom out their community so they can rise up in it, want to really devastate the rest of the world and maybe get into a civil war," he said.
And if that's what Americans want, he said, "I’m going to have to consider [Donald] Trump-[Sen. Ted] Cruz," USA Today reports.
But his actual ballot will be cast for Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton.
"I think Bernie Sanders is an exceptional American, and I’m going to vote for Hillary Clinton," he said, USA Today reports.
Penn also told the conference he now considers his controversial interview with notorious drug lord El Chapo – which
he deemed a failure in January – has actually been a "very good failure,"
Mashable.com reports.
"What I meant in saying that the article failed was that the interpretations at large by mainstream media virtually failed to see what the article was about," he said.
"Not only in the lines but between the lines, and what I really meant by failed was to get them to say 'oh it failed' and to keep talking about it. And I sit back at home and I watch them talk about the drug war every [explitive] day now. It was a very good failure."
