Christie Hero Springsteen Pokes Fun at Bridge-gate

By    |   Wednesday, 15 January 2014 10:52 AM EST

Gov. Chris Christie's all-time idol Bruce Springsteen has memorialized him in a song — but it's not one Christie will likely sing along to in public.

Springsteen joined late-night talk show host Jimmy Fallon early Wednesday, dressed in matching "Born in the U.S.A."- era denim shirts, aviator sunglasses and red bandanas to belt out a satirical song, "Governor Chris Christie's Fort Lee, New Jersey Traffic Jam," on Fallon's NBC program.

The song, set to the tune of Springsteen's classic "Born to Run," lambasted the on-going Bridge-gate scandal concerning the George Washington Bridge lane closures from Fort Lee going into New York City in September.

"They shut down the tollbooths of glory 'cause we didn't endorse Chris Christie," Fallon sang, before Springsteen joined in with a chorus of "Man, I've gotta take a leak, but I can't. I'm stuck in Governor Chris Christie's Fort Lee, New Jersey traffic jam."

Further Springsteen sang that Christie's lengthy press conference  about the closures "was longer than one of my own damn shows."

Springsteen has taken the stage with Fallon before to poke fun at other music, but Wednesday's performance lambasted one of his biggest fans.

The governor said in 2012 he had been to 129 Springsteen concerts, and performed several Springsteen cover songs himself during his 2010 inaugural gala.

Christie has also been a popular guest on "Late Night with Jimmy Fallon," and has himself sang with Fallon, performing a duet of Springsteen's "Thunder Road."

The governor also "slow jammed" the news  on one of Fallon's shows aired just before the 2013 election.
