Romney Adviser Stevens: Hillary Would Be 'Better President' Than Trump

A top GOP adviser for Mitt Romney in his failed 2012 presidential bid says he'd rather see Hillary Clinton in the White House than Donald Trump.

In an interview on Bloomberg's "With All Due Respect," Stuart Stevens called the GOP presidential front-runner "a dangerous person and … someone who would embarrass America."

"Personally, I think Hillary Clinton would be a better president than Donald Trump," the former Romney adviser said. "I have no desire to see Hillary Clinton as president of the United States. But if this is the choice — I will not give her my vote, but I can't support Donald Trump."

The Huffington Post reports Stevens has been criticizing Trump for months — and Trump has punched back with a characteristically acerbic tweet.

But Stevens joins a number of Republicans pledging not to support the real estate billionaire should he win the GOP nomination, including Virginia GOP Rep. Scott Rigell, who emailed supporters Tuesday and said he refuses to back someone "so lacking in the judgement, temperament and character needed to be our nation's commander-in-chief," the HuffPo reports.
