A majority of Americans say Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton didn't take the right steps to avoid conflicts of interest in donations to their Clinton Foundation, a new poll shows.

The USA Today/Suffolk University survey released Thursday finds 54 percent of respondents think the Clinton's didn't guard against those conflicts — even as email revelations show interactions of prominent foundation officials with Clinton's top aides at the State Department.

The poll also found:

  • 29.5 percent of all respondents think Hillary Clinton shouldn't be criticized on the issue.
  • Among Democrats, 33 percent said the Clintons didn't take appropriate steps; 52 percent said their nominee shouldn't be criticized.
  • Among GOP respondents, however, 75 percent think she didn't do the right thing; 11 percent said she shouldn't be criticized and 14 percent were undecided.

The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
