The March 1 Texas primaries are just days away and a new TEGNA/SurveyUSA poll released Wednesday shows Republican candidates Donald Trump and Ted Cruz tied with both candidates polling at 32 percent.

According to the poll:
  • Donald Trump, 32 percent;
  • Ted Cruz, 32 percent;
  • Marco Rubio, 17 percent;
  • John Kasich, 9 percent;
  • Ben Carson, 4 percent;
Despite being tied, the poll notes that Cruz is most popular between people aged 35-49 years-old while Trump is most popular between people aged 50-64 years-old.

And while the TEGNA/SurveyUSA poll clearly states that the two candidates are in a dead heat, when averaged with other Texas polls, Real Clear Politics notes that Cruz is leading the real estate mogul with 33 percent of the vote, up 5.2 percentage points.

On the Democratic side, Hillary Clinton is at the top with 61 percent while Sanders holds 32 percent.

While the majority of African-American and Hispanic voters prefer Clinton to Sanders, the poll shows that white voters are almost equally divided between the two candidates.

Other big takeaways on the Democratic side include:
  • People who identified as conservative were more likely to support Hillary Clinton when asked to choose between her and Sanders.
  • Only 25 percent of people identifying as Democrats would vote for Sanders.
SurveyUSA interviewed 1,750 adults living in Texas, of which 1,531 are registered to vote, after the South Carolina GOP primary and before the Nevada GOP caucuses.
