President-elect Donald Trump, his stunning upset victory behind him, is now putting together a Cabinet that could be one of the most controversial in modern history, Politico reported.
Among those up for top spots are three Trump loyalists, who stood by him during the bitter presidential campaign — Rudy Giuliani, Newt Gingrich and Chris Christie, according to the website, which notes the incoming president is also looking to bring in people from the private sector to fill some of the posts.
Here's how Trump's Cabinet could look, according to Politico:
- Secretary of State: Former House Speaker Gingrich, as well as Republican Sen Bob Corker of Tennessee are candidates for the post.
- Treasury secretary: Trump has already hinted he wants his finance chairman, Steven Mnuchin, a veteran of Godman Sachs, in the post. Mnuchin is now chairman and chief executive of a private investment firm.
- Secretary of Defense: Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., along with former National Security Adviser Stephen Hadley and former Sen. Jim Talent, R-Mo., are possibilities.
- Attorney General: Giuliani, the former New York mayor, is the key person under consideration. New Jersey Gov. Christie has also been mentioned.
- Interior secretary: A top contender is Forrest Luca, co-founder of an oil products company, Politico noted. But Trump's son, Donald Jr., as well as former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin are also being eyed.
- Secretary of Commerce: Everyone from billionaire investor Wilbur Ross, Dan DiMicco, a Trump trade advisor to former Texas Gov. Rick Perry has been mentioned for the post, Politico reported.
- Homeland Security secretary: David Clarke, sheriff of Milwaukee County, Wis., is being eyed for the job, Politico noted. Clarke spoke at the Republican National Convention and declared: "Blue lives matter."
Other names for available Cabinet posts include Ben Carson, who ran against Trump for the GOP presidential nomination; Florida Gov. Rick Scott and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.
Experts say Trump will look to reward people for their loyalty to his campaign, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.
"I fully expect that Newt [Gingrich] will get some type of very prominent position in the Trump administration," George Rep. Allen Peake told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "There's probably a handful of people who can name what they want and Newt would be on that list."
