Donald Trump said the Clinton Foundation deserves the "benefit of the doubt" when it comes to the millions of foreign dollars it received, according to a story in the Washington Examiner.
In an interview with Sean Hannity that aired Wednesday night on Fox News, Trump backed off the Clintons, one week after launching a petition urging the Justice Department to investigate the foundation.
During the town hall setting, Hannity asked Trump if he would take money from a country where gays and lesbians get the death penalty.
"Well, you don't want to do that," Trump said. "If they knew about it, that would be one thing, certainly they know about it now, so maybe they can give the money back."
Hannity: "Wait, they knew about it. That's been Saudi Arabia's practice for years."
Trump: "You know what, let's give them the benefit of the doubt."
Hannity: "You're going to give Hillary the benefit of the doubt? I'm not."
Trump: "You know what, they should give the money back, and I've been saying this for a long time."
