Donald Trump warned House Speaker Paul Ryan he'll have to "pay a big price" if he doesn't get along with the real estate billionaire should he win the White House.
The comment came as the front-runner gathered before reporters at his Mar-a-Lago resort in South Florida Tuesday night, when he ultimately carried seven states in
Super Tuesday voting.
Earlier in the day, Ryan had made a
veiled reference to Trump, saying any candidate who expects to be this year's Republican presidential nominee must denounce racism — an apparent response to the ambiguity of Trump's stance toward former Ku Klux Klan leader David Duke.
"I'm going to get along great with Congress. Paul Ryan, I don't know him well, but I'm sure I'm going to get along great with him," the brash New York businessman said at his news conference.
"And if I don't, he's going to have to pay a big price."
MSNBC host Lawrence O'Donnell noted Trump's warning was a threat that should be reconsidered.
"He threatened the Speaker of the House," who is "far more powerful than the president on all matters of domestic governing," O'Donnell argued, noting speakers of the House were in charge of
impeachment proceedings for both former President Richard Nixon, who resigned, and
President Bill Clinton, who was
later acquitted.
