Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is pulling closer to his Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, in Virginia, according to poll results in The Virginian-Pilot.
Among likely voters in Virginia:
- Clinton: 40 percent.
- Trump: 37 percent.
- Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson: 8 percent.
- Some other candidate: 4 percent.
- Undecided or would not reveal their choice: 9 percent.
The poll found voters are unhappy with both parties' candidates. Sixty percent of those in the poll have unfavorable views of both, and say they don't feel like either candidate is honest or trustworthy.
In Virginia, many voters appear to be isolated from each other. The Washington Post reported more than half of those who support either Trump or Clinton say no one among their close friends or families is supporting the opposing candidate.
The University of Mary Washington's Center for Leadership and Media Studies commissioned the phone poll of 685 likely voters from Sept. 6 through Sept. 12.
The results have a margin of error of 4.4 percent, the poll report said.
Trump is showing success in other polls, as well. A Los Angeles Times poll puts him ahead of Clinton by 6 points. A New York Time/CBS poll reported Trump and Clinton were in a virtual tie.
