Donald Trump early Friday said he was being sarcastic when he called President Barack Obama the "founder of ISIS" and Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton the "co-founder."
Trump took to Twitter some 36 hours after he made the claim, tweeting CNN for its serious coverage of the issue:
Trump doubled down Thursday, repeating his "founder of ISIS" claim without any clarification in two interviews.
He told conservative radio host Hugh Hewitt "No, I meant that he's the founder of ISIS, I do."
He even built on his initial claim, calling Obama and Clinton the "the most valuable player" of the terrorist group.
He elaborated further on Twitter later in the day:
