Donald Trump, who says he sometimes carries a gun for personal protection, said at Wednesday's GOP debate he'd feel safer if his own employees carried guns.

Moderator Carl Quintanilla reminded Trump he said after the mass shooting in Oregon the school would have been safer had teachers or someone else had guns.

"Would you feel better if your employees brought them to work?" Quintanilla asked.

"Yes, I might feel more comfortable. I would say that I would. And I have a permit, which is very unusual in New York, a permit to carry. And I do carry on occasion," Trump said, patting his hip.

"Are you carrying right now?" Quintanilla asked.

Trump didn't answer, but said "gun-free zones" have made such areas "target practice for the sickos and for the mentally ill."

Quintanilla told Trump that he had checked several Trump properties and found they don't allow guns.

"Would you change those policies?" he asked.

"I would change them," Trump said.
