Following his victory, President-elect Donald Trump is now set to get the most sensitive security briefings from intelligence officials as part of the transitional period.
ABC News reports that although both Trump and Hillary Clinton received some classified briefings after they were officially nominated by their respective parties over the summer, those were general security overviews of the global situation and not raw intelligence.
Of all the important elements to a transition of power, none is considered more crucial than ensuring the security of the American people at home and abroad. Part of taking over the role of commander in chief of the armed forces is the ability to handle the various crises around the world from the very first day in office.
To make that possible, Trump and his top advisers are to receive much more in-depth daily intelligence briefings, as well as regular meetings on major issues of diplomatic and international importance.
President Barack Obama, who authorizes what is disclosed to Trump until Inauguration Day, has already given his instructions on the type of intelligence briefings he considers important for the president-elect to receive, according to CBS News.
As soon as Trump selects his cabinet appointees, the intelligence community will carry out their security clearances as quickly as possible, and then they will also receive the briefings.
It's also expected that the White House and Trump's national security team will soon carry out a "black swan exercise," which simulates managing a major crisis in real time, reports ABC News.
