Hours after Donald Trump tried to end the controversy over President Barack Obama's birthplace, he accused Hillary Clinton of playing the race card amid sagging poll numbers and suggested that her Secret Service bodyguards "drop all weapons" because of her gun-control agenda.
"She wants to destroy your Second Amendment," the Republican nominee told a rally at the James L. Knight Center in Miami. "Guns, guns, guns, right?
"She goes around with armed bodyguards like you have never seen before.
"I think that her bodyguards should drop all weapons," Trump posed to the cheering crowd. "They should disarm, right? Right?
"I think they should disarm immediately," he said. "What do you think?"
"Take their guns away. She doesn't want guns. Take them and let's see what happens to her.
"Take their guns away, okay?" Trump said. "It would be very dangerous."
He also attacked Clinton for playing the race card — hours after Trump publicly acknowledged for the first time that President Barack Obama was born in the United States.
"What they do is they spear opponents — and you look at her history," Trump said. "They question their policies.
"They talk all the time about racists, racists," Trump added. "The only word they know.
"They used it on [Mitt] Romney. They used it on everybody. They use it.
"When they are in trouble they always pull out the 'racist' word — and they are in very big trouble."
In Washington, Trump earlier declared, "President Barack Obama was born in the United States. Period."
Trump then claimed that Clinton brought up the issue in the 2008 campaign against the then-Illinois senator, hoping to quell a firestorm that began in March 2011 when the Republican first questioned whether Obama was born in the country.
Clinton responded by demanding that Trump apologize to President Obama, charging her opponent with trying to "delegitimize our first black president."
"His campaign was founded on this outrageous lie," Clinton told the Black Women's Association in Washington. "There is no erasing it in history."
