Around the Country, Stories of Voting Irregularities

Tuesday, 06 November 2012 06:06 PM EST

Republicans and Democrats in Nebraska are alleging voter fraud in Omaha on Tuesday.

Voters in two different precincts were given ballots that had been marked for Republican GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney and Rep. Lee Terry, Democratic Party officials told Nebraska Watchdog.org.

Meanwhile, GOP Chairman Mark Fahleson alleged that calls went out today in Douglas County, where Omaha is located, erroneously telling Republican voters that they had already voted absentee and did not need to vote on Tuesday, Nebraska Watchdog.org reports.

Meanwhile, in an incident that Michigan Republican leaders are calling “outlandish” intimidation, a legally credentialed poll watcher was threatened with a gun at a polling precinct in Detroit, Fox News reports.

The poll watcher, a lawyer, was confronted by a voter who demanded that he show his credentials. The poll watcher complied, but the voter objected and allegedly brandished a gun and badge and ordered him to leave the precinct.

The Republican observer was reportedly chased away by the unidentified gun-wielding individual.

The Detroit Police Department told Fox that the alleged incident was under investigation.

“Poll watchers, precinct workers and voters should not be put in danger when performing their duties,” Bobby Schostak, chairman of the Michigan Republican Party, told Fox. “Our Republic requires free and fair elections.”

Schostak called the incident “outlandish, reckless and dangerous.”

In other incidents at the polls around the country on Election Day:

* In Pennsylvania, at least two reports have been confirmed of electronic voting machines that apparently have malfunctioned, CNN reports. The machines changed votes for President Barack Obama to votes for Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

“Look what happens,” said CNN’s Ali Velshi as a video of one of the machines was shown. “Mitt Romney comes up over and over and over again.”

In both cases — one in Perry Country, near Harrisburg and the other in Union County — the matter was remedied, CNN reports.

* MSN reports that a video posted on Reddit taken by someone calling himself "centralpavote" showing him apparently trying to electronically cast his vote for Barack Obama and finding it recorded as a vote for Mitt Romney instead.

"I initially selected Obama but Romney was highlighted. I assumed it was being picky so I deselected Romney and tried Obama again, this time more carefully, and still got Romney," he writes, according to MSN.

When he asked a poll worker for help, he said he was told, "It's nothing to worry about, everything will be OK," MSN reports.
