As long expected, the shoe is finally dropping for Marc Short, President Donald Trump’s director of legislative affairs.
Politico reports Short is leaving later this month to join Guidepost Strategies, a Washington, D.C., consulting firm, and teach at the University of Virginia’s business school.
His exit comes as a Supreme Court nomination battle looms and less than four months from the midterm elections.
A person familiar with Short’s plans told Politico he’s planning to leave at the end of next week.
Last month, The Wall Street Journal reported that Short told colleagues he planned to leave as early as summer because of the "diminishing returns" of pushing Trump's programs through Congress.
Short joined the White House on Inauguration Day last year after serving Vice President Mike Pence during the 2016 campaign.
