Rep. William Hurd: 'Triangulation' Among Snipers Took Place in Dallas Shootings

There seemed to be "some type of triangulation" among the snipers who shot and killed five Dallas police officers and wounded six others during a Dallas Black Lives Matter protest over police shootings in Minneapolis and Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Rep. William Hurd, a former CIA intelligence officer said Friday.

"When gunfire started exchanging, you had folks in cross positions that were moving towards the target," the Texas Republican told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program. "Usually, most folks that have never been in that situation are going the opposite direction. The level of coordination, there seemed to be some type of triangulation."

One of the suspects in the shootings is dead after a standoff, and three more are in custody, and that is "important," Hurd said, as "we don't always have that. So we're going to learn a lot. And the intelligence we're going to gain from those three is super important."

He called the shootings "horrific," and commented that it is "unbelievable to think that people are willing to kill in cold blood. To do that during a peaceful protest is unimaginable."

There will likely be calls for more strict gun control laws, Hurd acknowledged, but he said "everybody needs to calm down" and let law enforcement investigate what happened.

"What were the motives?" he said. "Is this connected to something else? Do other law enforcement officers around the country need to be worried that this is something larger?"

At least this time, there are suspects in custody, so they can be interrogated and more can be learned about their training.

"The one thing I think we do know is they had a level of training and preparation that shows an elevated understanding of tactics, techniques and procedures," said Hurd.
