Donald Trump launched a new attack on Hillary Clinton Friday, linking her to Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim. He is a major investor in The New York Times, which broke the story of two women who claim Trump sexually assaulted them.

Earlier Friday The Wall Street Journal, citing an unnamed Trump adviser, reported the Slim allegations would emerge soon.

During a speech Greensboro, N.C., Trump addressed Slim and the Times story's allegations that he sexually assaulted women.

"No paper is more corrupt than the failing New York Times," Trump said. "The good news is it is failing, it won't be around too much longer, but they're really, really bad people.

"The largest shareholder is Carlos Slim. He comes from Mexico. He has given many millions to the Clintons. Reporters of the New York Times, they're not journalists, they're corporate lobbyist for Carlos Slim and Hillary Clinton."

Trump's plan follows a New York Times article claiming that two women have accused the GOP nominee of kissing or fondling them without their consent. Trump lashed back during a rally in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Thursday, saying the allegations are "false and slanderous in virtually every respect."

According to the advisor, the attack will help Trump hit the "failing" New York Times, which he says had to be "rescued" by a "foreigner."

Slim's spokesman denied the claims to the Journal.

"This is totally false," said the spokesman, Arturo Elias. "Of course we aren't interfering in the U.S. election. We aren't even active in Mexican politics."

Elias also noted that the contributions Slim made to the foundation were public record.

"Carlos Slim is an excellent shareholder who fully respects boundaries regarding the independence of our journalism," said Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. "He has never sought to influence what we report."

Clinton's press secretary Brian Fallon called the attack on Slim "just another deranged right-wing conspiracy theory from Donald Trump's increasingly desperate campaign."
