Allard: NBC Too Liberal for Me

By    |   Monday, 28 April 2008 02:14 PM EDT

Former NBC military analyst Ken Allard has confirmed that he left his post in February because of the network’s sharp tilt to the left.

When he resigned, NewsBusters.org reported that Allard, a former Army colonel, complained that the network was undergoing a “precipitous retreat from journalistic and ethical standards.”

He elaborated on that during an interview with Howard Kurtz on CNN’s “Reliable Sources” on Sunday.

Kurtz mentioned that Allard had quit NBC and MSNBC after a 10-year relationship and had indicated that he “thought they were moving to the left.”

Allard said: “I thought they really had moved very slowly to the left, and I also thought that when they had the chance to clarify to the fact that they were not moving to the left, they didn’t do so.”

Kurtz asked: “How did that affect your other goals as an analyst?”

Allard replied: “Well, number one, I was not getting on. And again, that had been a long-standing trend. And I simply saw the handwriting on the wall and said, ‘You know what? They’re going one way, I’m going the other. Guys, thank you very much. God bless you I wish you well.’”

Allard had in particular objected to comments by another NBC analyst who suggested that the U.S. military was full of “mercenaries” raking in “obscene amenities.”
