Chelsea Clinton is now receiving her own Secret Service protection detail as she campaigns for her mother, according to a report by WNBC.com.
The heightened security is not the result of any specific threat, but rather because of her increased profile on the campaign, an official told WNBC.com.
"I can confirm Chelsea Clinton is now receiving Secret Service protection," said Eric Zahren, a spokesman for the Secret Service in Washington.
WNBC.com also reported that the Clintons requested the security coverage, in part, as a result of increased press coverage of Chelsea's appearances at campaign events.
Chelsea Clinton's security detail was signed off on by Homeland Security officials sometime in early May, a Secret Service official told WNBC.com.
"Out of an abundance of caution, this was deemed a prudent step by the Secret Service," said Philippe Reines, a Clinton spokesman.
