Book: Red Tape, Druggie Monkeys Bankrupting US

Tuesday, 12 July 2011 01:03 PM EDT

In his new book “Stealing You Blind: How Government Fat Cats Are Getting Rich off of You,” author Iain Murray of the Competitive Enterprise Institute calls United States lawmakers “bureaucratic masters of the universe” who “spin red tape and regulations that make your life harder (and their lives easier), your taxes higher, and your share of the nation’s debt unsustainable.”

In an interview with DailyCaller.com, Murray, an immigrant from Iain Murray, Competitive Enterprise InstituteGreat Britain, described the country’s political system as “a massive swindle on the American people.”

“There are grant programs to study how sick shrimp react on treadmills or feed cocaine to monkeys to find — surprise, surprise — that they get addicted to it,” he told the site. “Other grants have been used to organize a robot hoedown and to study how Farmville affects social relationships.”

Murray decries the $30 billion he says is spent each year on “pork projects,” as well as the $1.75 trillion in regulations and $2 trillion in Medicare and other public programs.

So what should be the function of the Fed?

“I believe government exists to secure our liberties, which it does by defending us from violence, persuading other governments to foster free trade, and to provide a court system for redress of grievances between citizens,” said Murray. “I think that the U.S. Constitution provides a great framework for doing just that.”
