Political analyst and Newsmax columnist Dick Morris said Wednesday he thinks the Republican Party will get behind Delaware GOP senate candidate Christine O’Donnell in full force for the general election once cooler heads prevail.
“I doubt very much that they’re (GOP leaders) going to follow through on that and not give her money,” Morris said before news broke that the National Republican Senatorial Committee was in fact endorsing O’Donnell.

“It was really a threat to try to win the primary for Castle. After the election there might be some temporary sour grapes but the Republicans need that seat.”
Morris said labeling candidates like O’Donnell “extremist” was based on outdated political calculations.
“There is a basic misconception which the establishment has about these primaries,” Morris said. “When a tea party candidate or an ‘extremist ‘wins the primary, normally that would mean there’s a lesser chance of winning the election.
“But the fact is that analysis dates from an era in which social issues like abortion, gays, guns were the key issues. Now they’re not. Fiscal and economic concerns are more important to voters.”
“When it comes to fiscal and economic concerns, someone who is an extremist in the words of the establishment is probably more trustworthy on those issues.
“The issue is not extremism or moderation. It’s sincerity or insincerity.”
