Florida Pastor Terry Jones, who has gained notoriety for burning the Quran, accidentally fired his .40-caliber handgun outside a Southfield, Mich., television studio Thursday night, the
Detroit Free Press reports. He was in Southfield to coordinate a controversial anti-Muslim rally.
Jones was getting in his car at 11:10 p.m. after an interview when he accidentally fired his Taurus, blasting a bullet into the floorboard, said Southfield Police Lt. Nick Loussia. "Officers heard a gunshot, approached the vehicle, asked Mr. Jones if he was ok. He was, and they also observed he had a gun in his hand."
Jones didn’t do anything wrong, Loussia said. "Based on the facts of the investigation, it did not appear a crime had been committed," he said.
Jones, who has a concealed weapons permit, had said as he and his followers trekked to the heavily Muslim Detroit suburb of Dearborn for a
Good Friday demonstration that they would be carrying guns.
