Liberals Use COVID-19 to Free Immigrant Detainees

One of the many sayings ascribed to the American-born socialist provacuteur Saul Alinsky (1909-1972) was, "Never let a crisis go to waste." Alinsky was a political/socialist thought influencer of former President Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton. Obama never worked for Alinsky, but Hillary Rodham did.

So it is in America, the radical socialists, the liberal Democrats, anarchists, and other leftists are not letting the Communist Chinese government-caused global pandemic crisis go to waste. They are mimicing the Chinese government party-line propaganda — the virus is the fault of the United States or that China is not responsible for the worldwide spread of the virus. Even some American Democrat Congressional-types are voicing in one form or another, "China is not at fault" and intimating the United States is without clean hands.

Blame America First Democrats.

As early as April 1, Democrats were playing the virus card. Rep. Joaquin Castro, D-Texas, the leader of the House Hispanic Caucus was demanding all illegal aliens in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody or detention be released before lives are lost due to the coronavirus.

Congressman Castro was joined in this demand by Rep. Alexandria Ocasis-Cortez, D-N.Y.. The George Soros-funded American Civil Liberties Union, along with various open-borders organizations, also demanded the release of all immigration detainees.

On April 15. 2020, Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., stated on CNN that the virus was President Donald J. Trump's fault, and not China's nor the World Health Organization's fault. This view was also voice by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

These voices were given wide coverage by a pliant U.S. newsmedia.

Assuming these advocated releases occur, it would add about 40,000 illegal foreign nationals, many with sordid criminal backgrounds and convicitions, to the estimated 25 million undocumented persons residing now in the United States.

The impact of such releases on federal, state, and local social services would be devastating. The pretense that illegal aliens do receive social services is false. The released people would recieve educational, food, health, housing and welfare benefits. Yes, now many do receive all the afirementioned benefits, but all illegal aliens receive some form of taxpayer-funded benefits.

During FY 2020 (Oct.2019-April 2020) on the Southwest border, the Border Patrol apprehended 206,927 illegal border-crossers — adults and children. Approximately, 75%  have been released with orders to return for a hearing before an immigration judge. This catch-and-release practice over the decades has a no-show rate of over 80%. Thus, the aliens are in the country until caught or they achieve some legal status.

As a result of lawsuits filed by the ACLU, federal judges in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia and other cities have released an estimated 172 illegal aliens into the general U.S. population in the immediate past days. The reason: concerns for the coronavirus impact on the detained aliens. It appears that releases will be occuring daily as long as the virus continues to exist.

To be inferred is that the federal prison system is unable or is lacking the proper environment and medical care necessary for the detainees. Thus, the liberal thinking is that only by releasing these criminal aliens into the country will the aliens be safe from the virus. The polls show that U.S. taxpayers disagree with the judges' opinions.

A large percentage of the released aliens have been convicted of murder, rape, child sex crimes, drug trafficking, and the list goes, on. But the judges appear to discount these convictions.

However, Federal Disctrict Court Judge James L. Robart of the Western District of Washington denied the ACLU a "temporary restraining order" that would have permitted older detainees and those with medical conditions release from detention. The ACLU argued that detention made them more vulnerable to COVID-19. The judge found that the detainees failed to prove that the detention was a punishment nor that the detainees would be likely to be infected.

A Washington Post poll, taken April 21-26 in cooperation with the University of Maryland showed 69% of hispanics, 67% of independents, 83% of Republicans and 51% of Democrats supported a near stop of legal immigration into the United States at least for the foreseeable future.

Immigration is and will be a continuing problem for the American people.

The United States is the promised land — virus or no virus.
