First reported in Newsmax on Monday, David Bowdich is soon expected to move from the number three position as Associate Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation to the number two spot as Deputy Director under Christopher Wray.
Bowdich, 48, automatically moved up to become acting Deputy Director Monday after the decision of controversial incumbent Andrew McCabe to retire. Wray is expected to make his appointment permanent later this week.
Often described as a “G-Man Out of Central Casting,” onetime Albuquerque (N.M.) policeman Bowdich even bears a resemblance to the late Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. when he played Inspector Lewis Erskine on the long-running television series “The FBI.”
He headed the terrorism unit of the FBI field office in Los Angeles, then took over the L.A. office before moving up to become the Bureau’s Associate Director.
Bowdich was tapped for his last two positions by then-FBI Director James Comey. Given the White House’s dismissal of Comey from the job last year and continued hostility toward the former director, his association with Bowdich may cause some concern within the Administration.
“But I don’t think it will keep him from getting the job,” Ron Kessler, author of three best-selling books on the FBI, told Newsmax, “Look, Comey was director from 2013 to 2017, so anyone who moved up in those years is going to be labeled a ‘Comey man.’”
