Following a week in which retirement announcements came from four Republican U.S. Representatives from Texas — three of whom barely managed re-election in 2018 — sources on Capitol Hill told Newsmax to expect more GOP lawmakers to soon announce they are calling it quits in 2020.

Betting among staffers and congressional pundits was that at least four more Republican House Members would make retirement announcements by Labor Day.

With the announcement Monday by Rep. Kenny Marchant of Texas, that he was relinquishing the seat representing Dallas-Fort Worth he has held since 2004, twelve Republican lawmakers have now said they are retiring.

“…[T]here will be other retirements,” California House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy told “Fox News” over the weekend, but insisted they would not interfere with the Republican plan to recapture a majority in the House in 2020.

At this writing, the breakdown in the House is 235 Democrats, 197 Republicans, one Independent, and two vacancies.

“I think they’re just getting fed up with all the abuse that goes along with the job,” former Rep. Dave Brat, R.-VA, told Newsmax, “And it is amazing that the media is not covering the amount of abuse that is logged on the Republican side as it truly is unbearable for a family.”
