With days to go before Indiana decides on its U.S. Senator, a Cygnal Poll conducted for WTHR-TV of Indianapolis showed Republican Mike Braun — businessman and former state legislator — leading the incumbent Sen. Joe Donnelly, 49 percent to 43 percent.

Another 3 percent went to Libertarian Lucy Brenton and 2 percent were undecided. The margin of error was plus or minus 4.36 percentage points.

Cygnal’s findings, released Tuesday, came on the heels of a CBS News/YouGov poll showing Braun edging Donnelly 46 to 43 percent and Libertarian Brenton with 3 percent of the vote. The margin of error in this poll was plus or minus 3.7 percentage points.

“Note the decline in numbers for the Libertarian,” said Ed Feigenbaum, editor of the Indiana Legislative Review, noting that Brenton had a strong 8 percent in a statewide survey in early October.

“This is more in line with what she will probably receive on Election Day.  So [Braun] may be getting the migration of Libertarians to Republicans.”
