With five days to go before Election Day, all signs in New York's 27th District (suburban Buffalo) point to the re-election of Rep. Chris Collins, R-N.Y. — despite the fact Collins is under indictment for insider trading.
According to the latest New York Times/Siena College poll released Tuesday, Collins is leading Democrat Nate McMurray 44-40 percent. The margin of error was plus or minus 4.8 percentage points.
This poll is virtually unchanged from a Times/Siena poll conducted at the beginning of the month showing Collins defeating Grand Island Town Supervisor McMurray 46-43 percent.
Along with the Republican nomination, three-termer Collins also appears on the ballot line of the New York Conservative Party.
"I'm convinced Congressman Collins will win again — no question," Ralph Lorigo, chairman of the Erie County Conservative Party, told Newsmax on Thursday. "And I certainly haven't seen any abandonment of him from volunteers in the Republican or Conservative Parties."
Lorigo reminded us, Collins, the first House Member to endorse Donald Trump for President in 2016, has a solidly conservative voting record in Congress and was previously a "very popular county executive [of Erie, the most populous county in the 27th District]."
