Possibly the best example of where the issue of law and order and support for police departments is working for Republicans is in New York's Staten Island-based 11th District.
With freshman Democrat Rep. Max Rose endorsed by New York Mayor Bill de Blasio — a major target of criticism by police officers — and casting some controversial votes dealing with law enforcement, Republican State Assemblywoman Nicole Malliotakis appears to be gaining momentum in the twilight days of the campaign.
According to an 1892 poll, Malliotakis actually leads Rose 42% to 39% among likely voters districtwide.
In addition, Malliotakis, 39, has raised $3 million. The 11th District has been in Republican hands for all but four of the last 40 years.
"He's been on the wrong side of public safety," Malliotakis told Newsmax of Rose between canvasses of homes Tuesday afternoon. "He supported the elimination of bail, voted for the release of convicted felons, and marched with the 'defund the police' crowd."
In contrast, the Republican candidate — who also carries the ballot line of the Conservative Party of New York State — proudly pointed out that she has been endorsed by the National Association of Police Organizations and every major police organization in New York.
