As White House press secretary Sarah Sanders prepared to come out for a much-anticipated briefing, speculation mushroomed at the White House that outgoing press secretary Sean Spicer would now stay in the administration and become communications director.

Talk of Spicer as communications director came hours after Anthony Scaramucci, who held the communications slot for 10 days, resigned. The "Mooch," as he is known, was reportedly escorted off the White House grounds.

Spicer was known to oppose Scaramucci's appointment. Newly minted White House Chief of Staff John Kelly reportedly insisted on Scaramucci's exit Monday and is considered friendly to Spicer.
