Conservatives Applaud Vought's Appointment as Budget Chief

Conservatives cheered President Donald Trump's appointment Tuesday of Russ Vought as director of the Office of Management and Budget.

Vought is curently the acting OMB director and before that was the deputy director.

Newsmax predicted Vought's appointment two weeks ago when the president announced that Mick Mulvaney, who served simultaneously as OMB chief and acting White House chief of staff, was resigning to become his special envoy to Northern Ireland.

A graduate of Wheaton College in Illinois, Vought worked on the staff on former Sen. Phil Gramm, R.-Texas, and was executive director of the House Republican Study Committee.

He is highly regarded by Republican members of the House as well as White House correspondents, who found him highly accessible on budget issues.

Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, spoke for many in the national conservative movement by hailing Vought as "the perfect choice for a permanent budget director. He's competent, principled, hard-working, and consistent."

Norquist cited Vought as an example of those "men and women the modern conservative movement has created and promoted who are capable of governing the heretofore ungovernable federal government."
