Thirty-six hours after Mike Pence’s flight to New Hampshire for a conference on opioid addiction was canceled, the vice president’s top aide told reporters that the Washington press corps would find out what happened.
Marc Short, Pence’s chief of staff, told reporters on Wednesday morning that the mystery would be resolved for them “in a few weeks.”
Pence held the nation’s attention for a few hours on Tuesday following reports Air Force Two had turned back from its flight to New Hampshire and that the vice president would be in Washington.
As it turned out, the official vice presidential plane never got in the air and there was no turnaround because there was no flight.
Late Wednesday afternoon, there were reports among the White House press corps that the cancellation had to do with attendees of the conference having problems with their background checks. For the last three administations, guests at events with the president and vice president have been required to provide social security numbers.
