Déjà vu happened, all over again, to Dr. Anthony Fauci on July 20th. During a Senate hearing in which Fauci was questioned about the COVID-19 pandemic, Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky confronted Fauci about his role in the National Health Institute’s funding of the Wuhan Virology Lab.
Dr. Paul accused Fauci of lying under oath to Congress when he denied that neither he nor the NIH had a role in helping fund the Wuhan but got proven incorrect.
While the funding was not deemed dignified as “gain of function” funds, Fauci and NIH’s involvement in allocating funds to the virology lab was indicative and proven genuine. After Paul accused Fauci of lying under oath, he claimed he might create a criminal referral for the disease ‘expert.’
Out of their many clashes over the last few months, this was undoubtedly their most tense yet.
The confrontation may have been the first time since Fauci emerged into the national spotlight that we saw him emotional and upset at an accusation he had to answer, yet did not have a defense for.
All Fauci did was argue the NIH did not aid the “gain of function” research to the Wuhan lab--very intensely at that--which does not help his case because of the proof provided that the NIH had a role in supplying the lab with funds.
He began yelling at Senator Paul during the committee hearing, saying, “You don’t know what you are talking about.”
Of course, Dr. Paul stayed calm, relaxed, and collected during the hearing but calmly dismantled all of Fauci’s arguments and points towards him.
This battle between Sen. Paul and Dr. Fauci is a prime example of how worshipping government officials always ends in disaster.
Dr. Fauci quietly served under multiple administrations before coming into the limelight during President Trump’s term. In the same way the left always religiously embraces their candidates and figures, Fauci was crowned as the next figure up for idol worship.
He was made into merchandise, appears weekly on cable news television, and has become the symbol of federal government control over the private citizenry during the COVID-19 pandemic.
This lionization of a man as a beacon of truth, light, and hope during the past year and a half is one of the biggest missteps ever by Democrats, the mainstream media, and Fauci himself in thinking he is the all-knowing superior when it comes to public health.
Sen. Paul has constantly proven himself to be consistent in shrinking federal government intrusion on the citizenry.
Whether it has been advocating for less regulation, prioritizing the exposure of the NSA through supporting for a pardon of Edward Snowden, or something as simple as the dismantling of a bureaucrat with too much influence, Paul continues to value individual liberty over the expansion of federal government power.
He has his finger on the pulse of the heartbeat of the American people and their apprehension to an abusive, intruding government.
Dr. Fauci embodies everything Senator Paul despises in government: A “more intelligent than thou attitude” that believes the government is all-knowing, while the average American knows less and should be told what to do.
Fauci deserved to be embarrassed in front of a nationwide audience. Hopefully, the altar worship of the man will stop soon enough.
