University of Manchester professor emeritus of chemical thermodynamics Leslie Woodcock observes that the green lobby has created a “do-good industry” premised upon an unsubstantiated hypothesis that CO2 fossil emissions cause dangerous “global warming.”
In a recent interview with Britain’s Yorkshire Evening Post, the prominent scientist said: “If you talk to real scientists who have no political interests, they will tell you there is nothing in global warming. It’s an industry which creates vast amounts of money for some people.”
Dr. Woodcock, a senior research consultant at NASA’s Wright-Patterson Air Force Laboratory, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, and founding editor of the journal Molecular Simulation, believes that “you can’t blame people with no science education for wanting to be seen to be good citizens who care about their grandchildren’s future and the environment.”
Instead, he believes that the fear industry is a “consequence of professional misconduct of government advisers around the world.”
Greenpeace co-Founder Dr. Patrick Moore who quit the activist environmental organization in 1986 after it strayed away from objective science agrees.
Testifying last February before the Senate Environmental and Public Works Committee’s Subcommittee on Oversight, he took issue with the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) claim that “Since the mid-20th century it is ‘extremely likely’ that human influence has been the dominant cause of the observed warming."
Moore pointed out that “There is no scientific proof that human emissions of carbon dioxide are the dominant cause of the minor warming of the Earth's atmosphere over the past 100 years,” arguing that “perhaps the simplest way to expose the fallacy of extreme certainty is to look at the historical record.”
He told the committee: “When modern life evolved over 500 million years ago, CO2 was more than 10 times higher than today, yet life flourished at this time. Then an Ice Age occurred 450 million years ago when carbon dioxide was 10 times higher than today.”
Moore noted that “The increase in temperature between 1910 and 1940 was virtually identical to the increase between 1970 and 2000. Yet the IPCC does not attribute the increase from 1910–1942 to human influence.” Why then, he asks, “does the IPCC believe that a virtually identical increase in temperature after 1950 is caused mainly by human influence, when it has no explanation for a nearly identical increase from 1910 to 1940?"
When previously asked on Fox Business News who is responsible for promoting unwarranted fear and what their motives are, Moore said: “A powerful convergence of interests. Scientists seeking grant money, media seeking headlines, universities seeking huge grants from major institutions, foundations, environmental groups, politicians wanting to make it look like they are saving future generations. And all of these people have converged on this issue."
It took the U.N. no time at all to use climate fearmongering to rally global wealth redistribution opportunism. By 1988, only about a decade following a three-decades-long global cool-down from between 1940 to the late 1970s, they established the IPCC to prove that global warming (now “climate change”) was a human-caused crisis.
Nobel Laureate physicist Dr. Ivar Giaever has referred to global warming ideology as a “pseudoscience” that begins with an emotionally-appealing hypothesis, and “then only looks for items which appear to support it,” while ignoring ample contrary evidence.
Tragically, that pseudoscience does the greatest injustice to those who can least afford it. These penalties come in forms of green energy subsidies, domestic fossil development impediments, and runaway EPA regulatory policies which drive up fuel and electricity costs, food prices, federal debt, and monetary inflation.
We also pay dearly through tax-supported fear campaigns masquerading as science. Many thousands of researchers are funded to find a connection between human carbon emissions and climate. Very few, if any, are funded to find the opposite.
The good news is that Mother Nature will eventually have the final word. Observable contradictions between actual climate trends and those predicted based upon highly speculative IPCC models clearly show that despite elevated atmospheric CO2 levels, there hasn’t been any statistically-significant warming over the past 17 years.
Climate science industrialists and eco-elitist zealots arguing that fossil-fueled economic growth is the enemy of the environment miss a vital point. They overlook the fact that that such progress yields technological innovation and prosperity essential to support more resourceful, cleaner and healthier lifestyles.
And despite unrelenting alarm campaigns, a recent Gallup Poll shows that a majority of Americans now rank “climate change” at the bottom of a list of eight environmental concerns they care most about. Given a total lack of evidence to the contrary, this trend should bring a chill to those who depend upon a do-good-premised junk science industry to justify unwarranted, ever-expanding regulatory intrusions into our lives.
