Iranian-sponsored Hamas and Hezbollah attacks on our ally Israel and its Jewish population are only early acts in a far broader strategy among collaborating global adversaries to weaken and ultimately destroy American culture and capitalism.
Current U.S. administration policies, a virtually open U.S. southern border and enrichment of criminal cartels key among them, are facilitating very real and active assaults on freedoms and prosperity we can only ignorantly ignore.
FBI Director Christopher Wray told reporters in a rare Oct. 9 telephone briefing, "The threat is very much ongoing and in fact, the threat picture continues to evolve.
"Here in the U.S., we cannot and do not discount the possibility that Hamas or other foreign terrorist organizations could exploit the conflict to call on their supporters to conduct attacks on our own soil."
Whereas Wray said that his agency doesn’t have "specific and credible intelligence indicating a threat to the United States stemming from the Hamas attacks," recall that neither reportedly did either Israeli or U.S. intelligence before they occurred.
Mark Morgan, the former acting commissioner of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, told the Epoch Times, "Nobody in their right mind can say that our border is secure."
Warning that terrorist cells may already be operating in the U.S., Morgan noted that in the past 11 months, 152 people on the terror watchlist have been arrested while tens of thousands of other "special interest aliens" have entered and been released.
Special interest refers to people from countries with direct ties to state-sponsored terrorist groups, including Iran, Yemen, Lebanon, Egypt, and Pakistan.
Morgan observes that there’s no movement of Islamic terrorist organizations — in the Americas or elsewhere — without some knowledge, consent, or support from Iran to wage its anti-Western ideological agenda.
Evan Ellis, a Latin American analyst and professor at the U.S. Army War College agrees., telling the Epoch Times that Iran has engaged in recent actions to bring the threat closer to our border by engaging its "anti-U.S. friends in Latin America including Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua."
We well might wonder if some of that criminal cartel human border trafficking and drug money is being comingled with funds supporting anti-American Latin American and Middle East interests.
On Sept. 12, the U.S. Department of Treasury imposed sanctions on three people associated with Hezbollah’s illicit financial activities in Latin America.
Emanuele Ottolenghi, a senior fellow at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, notes that "Over the past decades, Hezbollah has built a well-oiled, multibillion-dollar money laundering and drug trafficking machine in Latin America that cleanses organized crime’s ill-gotten gains through multiple waypoints in the Western hemisphere."
In June, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro signed an agreement deepening bilateral cooperation in multiple areas "including security cooperation" which obviously doesn’t include protecting ours.
During the signing event Maduro proclaimed, "We are on the right side of history, Iran, and Venezuela. Together we will be invincible."
Mark Morgan points out it’s well known that the Maduro regime has "proactively released criminals from Venezuela to encourage them to come to the U.S."
Meanwhile, as I previously reported, Beijing is also expanding economic relationships with Venezuela, Argentina and Brazil as a consequence of a new wave of leftist leaders who have swept into office across Latin America in recent years.
China is considered Brazil's largest trading partner, and both are members of an economic organization called BRICS, also consisting of Russia, India, and South America.
Brazil has agreed to conduct future China trade in yuan currency, and provocatively to America, allowed Irani warships to moor off Rio de Janeiro's famous beaches from Feb. 26 to March 4.
In another ominous development, Honduras has recently established diplomatic relations with China which formally cut ties with Taiwan.
According to data compiled by the Customs and Border Control agency, more than 2.8 million illegal migrants have crossed the southern border in the past 11 months, the highest number on record. . . not counting an estimated more than 1.5 million "gotaways" since President Biden took office.
As of March of this year, more than 4,000 of the known migrant encounters over the previous five months were from mainland China, with the majority consisting of military-age men.
Mark Morgan sounds an alarm that America’s overwhelmed southern border is a gaping hole in our nation’s armor whereby depleted border forces can’t even perform thorough intelligence interviews to identify potential terrorists.
At best, he says, border officials only have time and resources to do a "rudimentary check" on special interest aliens before releasing them into the country.
Now, more than ever, we should recognize that our military adversaries will not be content to brutally assault our allies and interests on foreign territories so long as we leave our own door open with a welcome mat.
There is no sane reason to allow this blatant terrorist invitation to continue.
Let’s awaken our senses to recognize this before it’s tragically too late.
