In late April 2021, I published my last Newsmax article about the steep decline in COVID-19 deaths and the robust increase in vaccinated Americans.
Three months later, with so much "doom, gloom and fake COVID epidemiology," being relentlessly disseminated by the liberal media and prominent Democrats, an update about these continuing encouraging trends is undoubtedly timely.
On July 14, Randi Weingarten, the president of the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), demagogically tweeted: "Disgusting. Millions of Floridians are going to die for Ron DeSantis’ ignorance."
In reality, as of July 21, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention reports 601,000 deaths from COVID in America since January 2020, including 36,000 in Republican Gov. DeSantis’ Florida.
With a population last year of 21.5 million, Florida has 167 COVID deaths per 100,000.
By contrast, New York, where Weingarten has lived her entire 63 years, has suffered 55,000 COVID deaths. With an inflated population of 20.2 million people in the 2020 Census, New York’s death rate is 272 per 100,000.
Moreover, John Tierney, in "The Panic Pandemic," a recent superb essay in City Journal, calculated the "Age-Adjusted COVID Mortality Rates" for the nation’s 12 most populous states, and New York has the worst record at 267 deaths per 100,000.
Florida, with the second highest percentage of residents 65 years of age and older, has the lowest rate: 136 deaths per 100,000, or half that of Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s dystopia.
After receiving a tsunami of criticism for her politically-motivated and scientifically-illiterate claim, Weingarten, a member of the Democratic National Committee, hypocritically backpedaled: "I shouldn’t have said millions."
(Full disclosure: I have been since 1990 a member of the United Federation of Teachers, the AFT’s largest affiliate in New York City, which Weingarten, a lawyer with astroturf experience as a teacher, headed between 1998 and 2008.)
On July 16, two days after Weingarten’s inaccurate statement, President Joe Biden mind-bogglingly told reporters that Facebook and other major social-media platforms were "killing people," for allowing what he characterized as COVID vaccination disinformation to be disseminated.
Three days later, after a vociferous counterattack by Facebook and an avalanche of devastatingly negative news coverage, Biden retracted this abhorrent claim.
Despite’s Biden’s and Weingarten’s rabble-rousing inaccuracies, the latest great news about COVID deaths in America is that they plunged an astonishing 87% during the first five months of 2021 — From 105,000 in January to 14,000 in May.
Of the 105,000 COVID deaths in January 2021, California, autocratically and ineptly ruled by Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom, suffered 20,000, or 19%.
However, last year California’s 40 million residents were only 12% of the 335 million living in the 50 states, District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
The CDC’s other authoritative monthly "Provisional Death Counts of COVID Deaths" for 2021 are: February, 47,000; March, 23,000; and April, 18,000.
As of July 21, COVID deaths in June are 7,197, and should be fewer than 8,500, when fully tallied by the end of this month.
This would represent a remarkable 92% decline since January.
July’s preliminary deaths tolls, from the unaudited CDC "Data Tracker," show a continuing decline, despite a small uptick during the last two weeks.
On June 7, the average number of daily deaths during the previous week were 402.
On July 7, the average daily death toll during the previous week had dropped 58%, to 168.
On July 20, 2021, the total had increased to 237, which is still the lowest daily average, for a 7-day period, since March 26, 2020, which was during the first week that the COVID epidemic had first exploded in New York City and America.
Another hysterical media campaign, orchestrated by leading Democrats and the fake liberal media, has been directed against unvaccinated Americans.
It began after Biden’s arbitrary goal, of having 70% of Americans 18 years of age and older vaccinated by July 4, was missed by a mere 3%.
A better barometer of America’s fantastic vaccination success is the rates for Americans 50 years of age and older, who account for 95% of COVID-19 deaths.
In the 65 years of age and older cohort, who represent 79% of COVID deaths, 89% have received at least one dose and 80% are fully vaccinated.
Among the 50 to 64 years of age cohort, who account for 16% of COVID-19 deaths, 75% have received at least one dose.
By contrast, 2,807 Americans younger than 30 years of age died with COVID-19 as a comorbidity, or five-tenths of 1% of total fatalities.
Furthermore, among the 103 million Americans younger than 25 years of age, only 23 million, or 22%, have received at least one dose of the three approved COVID-19 vaccines.
Regrettably, Scott Rasmussen’s latest poll in Newsmax on July 21 reports that Americans, who are confident the worst of the COVID epidemic is behind us, has plunged from 56% to 37% over the last six weeks. This is the "lowest level of optimism since January."
My first COVID article for Newsmax, in mid-April 2020, extensively documented that the death tolls, from the departments of health of New York City Democratic Mayor Bill de Blasio and Gov. Andrew Cuomo, were "fudged," and thus were "epidemiologically worthless."
