On April 16, 2020, I published an article in Newsmax documenting that the health departments of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and Gov. Andrew Cuomo were disseminating "epidemiologically worthless" SARS-CoV-2 death tolls, and I urged President Donald Trump "to end the national shutdown and to return Americans to their normal, intensely productive lives."
Eight months later, the two incorrigibly incompetent Democrats are still propagating "Fake COVID Deaths Tolls," and wrecking the city's and state's economy.
On Dec. 10, the website of the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) reported 27,587 deaths, including 16,918 fatalities among New York City residents.
That same day, the authoritative death totals, from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, counted 34,193 fatalities in New York State, including 21,226 in the nation's most populous city.
Thus, the gold-standard CDC Provisional Death Totals, which are based on official death certificates filed with and analyzed by the National Center for Health Statistics, tallied 6,606 more fatalities for New York State, than were reported by the Gov. Cuomo's DOH.
The CDC's total for NYC were 4,308 higher than Cuomo's.
Moreover, on Dec. 10, the COVID confirmed death totals on the website of the NYC Department of Health (NYCDOH) were 19,704 or 2,786 more than NYSDOH's 16,918.
However, this official NYC grim tally was 1,522 fewer than the CDC's 21,226.
Mayor de Blasio's DOH website, in a footnote, tendentiously admits that its death totals, and those from the state, are scientifically worthless:
"Due to data collection differences, the City's reported total of confirmed deaths for any given day is usually different than the State's data about NYC deaths."
The following chart further demonstrates that the death tolls from the two New York health departments are "Fake COVID Epidemiology":
Date |
NYSDOH Deaths for NYS |
NYCDOH Deaths for NYC |
Dec. 10 |
27,587 |
19,733 |
Nov. 22 |
26,390 |
19,537 |
In the 18 days between Nov. 22 and Dec. 10, the NYSDOH reports that 1,197 residents of the state died from SARS-CoV-2 (and co-morbidities.)
During this same period, the NYCDOH reports that 167 residents of the city, or 14% of the state's tally, were killed by the virus.
To reiterate, the CDC's "Provisional Death Counts," which the federal health agency characterizes as delivering the "most complete and accurate picture of lives lost to COVID-19," document that, as of Dec. 10,
21,226 of NYS's grim total of 34,193 fatalities, were residents of NYC, or 62%.
There is absolutely no scientific explanation for this dramatic reversal in the state's deaths by residence of the decedents: from the CDC's ratio of city-to-rest-of-NY State of 62% to 38%, to the NYSDOH's 14% to 86% ratio for this recent 18-day period.
Ignoring the "Fake COVID Death Totals" from Andrew Cuomo's DOH, and using those from the CDC, I calculated that an abominable 34,207 of America's 264,780 deaths, or 13%, are his responsibility.
New York State has only 6% of the nation's population.
Only in the Orwellian world of the Emmy Awards would the governor of the state, with the worst record of battling the COVID epidemic, receive an award for his "Potemkin Village" daily press conferences.
In fact, Democratic New York's death rate per 100,000 residents is more than twice that of Florida, which has the very competent Republican Ron DeSantis as governor:
Location |
Population |
2020 COVID Deaths |
Per 100,000 |
Florida |
21.48 million |
18,207 |
85 |
New York |
19.45 million |
34,192 |
176 |
New York City |
8.34 million |
21,226 |

Moreover, in October, New York's unemployment rate was 9.6%, ranking 48th among states.
Florida's was 6.5%, ranking 32nd.
The national unemployment was 6.9%.
As a result of 10 years of Gov. Andrew Cuomo's mind-boggling ineptitude, and seven years of the egregiously incompetent leadership of Mayor Bill de Blasio, New York can no longer be called the "Empire State."
Rather, its nickname should now be the "Incredible Shrinking State," as hundreds of thousands of residents have fled NYC in 2020, as the New York Post reported last month.
Tragically, this massive exodus will continue in 2021, as de Blasio has one more year to royally screw-up, and Cuomo has two years left.
