Merrick Garland demonstrates what happens when America’s top law enforcement officer stops serving the people of the United States and opts instead to become the president’s personal hitman.
The most recent example is his obsession with the January 6 Capitol Hill riot, to the point of spending hours watching the televised January 6 House committee hearings.
“I am watching, and I will be watching all the hearings, although I may not be able to watch all of it live,” Garland said. “And I can assure you that the Jan. 6 prosecutors are watching all the hearings.”
But why? It’s not a trial: there’s no cross-examination of witnesses. There’s no presentation of opposing evidence. He only learns what Democrats want him to learn.
Although the riot was a stain on our history, the rioters possessed no weapons, very little property was damaged, and the only two people killed were demonstrators: Rosanne Boyland, who was trampled to death, and Air Force veteran Ashli Babbitt.
Babbitt was shot and killed by Capitol Police Lt. Michael Byrd, who remained hidden.
Then there’s Garland’s continued refusal to arrest pro-abortion activists demonstrating outside the homes of conservative U.S. Supreme Court justices.
He eventually bowed to Republican pressure and provided federal marshals at the justices homes. It was only the presence of marshals at Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s home that prevented his assassination.
But so far none of the protesters have been arrested, although they’re clearly demonstrating in violation of federal law to get the conservative justices to change a vote on a pending abortion case.
Former Arizona Supreme Court Justice Andrew Gould recently told Newsmax that "this isn't protected speech — going to the home of justices, intimidating them and their families.
”I think they also can be prosecuted for obstruction of justice, so, there are at least two federal crimes that have been committed," said Gould, a current Arizona attorney general candidate.
But perhaps the most egregious example of Garland’s hyper-partisanship is centered on a diary alleged to have belonged to Ashley Biden, the president’s youngest and the first lady’s only child.
When Ashley Biden finished rehab in 2020 at a Palm Beach home used for recovering addicts, she reportedly left a diary behind. Florida resident Aimee Harris later found it beneath a mattress and allegedly sold it, making herself and others targets of federal investigations.
A source close to the investigation admitted to the Daily Mail that the diary wasn’t stolen and they’re not making that allegation.
“But it's her selling the property of another that could be considered a crime,” the source said, without citing any federal statute. “And the fact Ashley is the president's daughter kicks it to a different legal level.”
The diary eventually came into the possession of Project Veritas, a conservative investigative journalism outlet known for its undercover videos. And the Department of Justice pounced, by raiding the homes of its founder, James O’Keefe, and its reporters.
The raids shocked the conscience of not only everyday Americans, but also that of Jonathan Turley, a George Washington University Law professor.
''So why the raids?'' Turley asked. ''Since when does the FBI [conduct] raids over missing diaries?
''The FBI can cite the interstate elements of the alleged theft as raising a federal crime. However, what is the crime? It is not clear if they are suggesting that the responsible parties were seeking to sell the diary or that there was some national security element (which would be bizarre since Biden's daughter was writing before her father ever became president).’'
Americans first got a whiff of Garland’s partisan politics when, acting at the request of education board representatives, he ordered the FBI to monitor parents voicing concerns at school board meetings, under the claim that they were “domestic terrorists.”
When President Biden appointed Garland as his attorney general, Garland was enjoying a lifetime appointment as chief judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the powerful D.C. Circuit.
Some suggest that Garland may be sucking up to Biden in anticipation of a Supreme Court appointment after Republicans blocked his 2016 appointment by then-President Obama.
But in that event, his hyper-partisanship won’t likely pick up a single Republican Senate vote to confirm, and may even turn off a few Democrats.
He should perform his duties with neither prejudice nor favor and stop acting as the president’s personal lawyer. Biden can afford to hire his own lawyers.
