Events have now devolved to the point where the inmates are literally running the asylum, and they’re doing so with the asylum director’s blessing.
Consider it the latest event that will only help Trump’s reelection in November.
As an indication of how upside-down things have gotten in recent days, Antifa activists, who are now under consideration to be designated as domestic terrorists, have taken over a significant swath of Seattle.
They claimed it as being autonomous from any legitimate political authority.
They reportedly have the blessing of Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan. And Antifa rewarded the mayor’s acquiescence by taking over city hall, and at least three council members have in turn demanded her resignation
The Post Millennial’s editor-at-large Andy Ngo first reported on the development Tuesday, mid-afternoon, Eastern time.
"Seattle @MayorJenny is allowing a dangerous situation to fester," he tweeted. "#Antifa militants have taken over & created an 'autonomous zone' in city w/their own rules. Police precinct abandoned. Antifa set up barricades to create a border. Calling for volunteers to provide armed guard."
Young punks wearing black masks to obscure their identity being handed loaded firearms with possibly little or no training.
What could possibly go wrong?
Townhall.com senior writer Julio Rosas reported, "Protesters have put on the barricades that those coming into the area are ‘now leaving the USA’ and entering the 'Cap Hill autonomous zone' or 'Free Capitol Hill.'"
Rosas described other signs around the perimeter that called for defunding the Seattle Police Department and summarily dropping all charges currently pending against rioters and looters. Yet another sign proclaimed, "The cops will always be racist because capitalism requires inequality."
Ngo indicated that this wasn’t the first time Antifa declared a section of a major Pacific Northwest city to be a "no-go" zone with mayoral approval.
Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler allowed it to go on in his city for five weeks in 2018.
Ngo wrote that as a result, "not only did it become a biohazard site w/intravenous drug abuse, [but also] the local businesses & residents were terrorized. Tax payers had to pay for the extensive cleanup."
The militants’ demands two years ago weren’t all that different from Tuesday’s. Today they’re demanding that all police departments be defunded.
In 2018 they called for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to be abolished.
At the time, Antifa also barricaded all exits of a Southwest Portland ICE facility, and blocked the driveway, preventing anyone from exiting or entering.
Officers and employees trapped inside requested but were refused local police assistance.
"I am denying your request for additional resources," said the Portland Police Bureau’s deputy chief, Robert Day.
Ngo, writing of the Portland incident for The Wall Street Journal, reported that Mayor Wheeler, a Democrat, who also served as police commissioner, ordered the police to stay away.
The reason?
He didn’t want them "to be engaged or sucked into a conflict, particularly from a federal agency that I believe is on the wrong track."
A video posted Tuesday on YouTube at an entrance to Seattle’s new “autonomous zone” depicted a news crew allegedly being removed from the area. But it showed most of all total chaos.
When New York Mayor Bill de Blasio ordered his police to use a "light touch" to deal with rioters who were looting, destroying, and firebombing businesses, voters took note.
When Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan gives Antifa thugs her blessing to take over blocks of city businesses and a police precinct with armed guards, people also remember.
And they’ll go on remembering until Nov. 3, just like they did in 1968, when the Democratic National Convention in Chicago was held under the backdrop of rioting and protesting in the streets of the Windy City.
And they’ll remember just like they recalled the chaos of 1980 when 60 American Embassy employees were held hostage for 444 days by student activists in Tehran, Iran, as then-President Jimmy Carter stood paralyzed like a deer in the headlights.
In 1968 the chaos propelled Republican Richard Nixon into the White House; the 1980 Iran Hostage chaos guaranteed Ronald Reagan’s election as president; and 2020’s chaos will renew Donald Trump’s lease to the White House for four more years.
