CNN's New York studios were evacuated Wednesday morning after discovery of a possible explosive device sent to the Time Warner Center in Manhattan.

CNN cited three unnamed sources saying that the suspicious package was addressed to former CIA Director John Brennan, in care of CNN's New York offices.

"John Brennan is a contributor to MSNBC and NBC News, not to CNN," the network’s Wolf Blitzer said.

The officials said the CNN bomb was crude but operational and appeared similar to explosives sent to former President Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton and billionaire George Soros.

Meanwhile, the network is reporting the device was removed from the building by police.

During the scare, the news network was forced to end a live broadcast out of the studio after an alarm went off because of the suspicious package, according to The Hill, which attributed the information to employees in the building.

The "CNN Newsroom" show had to cut interviews short after the alarm was sounded. The show had been focusing in on a suspicious package sent to the home of former President Bill Clinton and his wife Hillary. Another suspicious package, intended for former President Barack Obama, was intercepted by the Secret Service.

The CNN broadcast was switched to the news network's bureau in Washington.

Hadas Gold, a CNN reporter, tweeted: "CNN's New York building (Time Warner center) has been evacuated. @Rene_MarshCNN has taken over anchoring from Washington DC."

CNN reported the device sent to the Time Warner Center was constructed with a pipe and wires. It said law enforcement authorities are treating the device as a real explosive.
