Adam Kinzinger to Obama: Tell ISIS-Aligned Groups They Are Targets

By    |   Monday, 09 March 2015 08:30 PM EDT

Rep. Adam Kinzinger says he believes the United States could have prevented the spread of the Islamic State (ISIS), but the president's job now is to let other groups know they will suffer the same fate.

The Nigerian group Boko Haram over the weekend pledged allegiance to ISIS, and Kinzinger, an Illinois Republican and Iraq War veteran, said it is time for President Barack Obama to lead.

"I think the president needs to make a declarative statement that if you're an Islamic jihadist, if you are an extremist, if you are a terrorist, it doesn't matter whether you are in Africa, whether you are in Europe, whether you are in the Middle East — wherever you exist, understand that that will either put you in jail if you are in Europe, or it's going to mean the end of your life if you are in one of these other countries," Kinzinger said Monday on Fox News Channel's "On the Record with Greta Van Susteren."

"Now that Boko Haram has joined ISIS, guess what, Boko Haram has the same target on their back that ISIS has in Syria and Iraq."

Kinzinger said Obama has done some important things in the fight against terrorism, but needs to do more.

"I'm not going to hold my breath for it," he said. "This threat is going to continue to grow unless we do that."
