Hollywood celebrities, including Alec Baldwin, Amy Schumer and Alyssa Milano, are teaming up with Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student activists and others to launch a campaign to reduce the political clout of the National Rifle Association, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Over 130 celebrities and activists announced the No Rifle Association initiative in a letter to NRA Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre on Friday, the Reporter said. Others signing the letter included Ashley Judd, Minnie Driver, Jimmy Kimmel, Michael Moore, and Douglas students David Hogg and Cameron Kasky, the Reporter noted.
"We’re going to shine a bright light on what you and your organization do to America," the letter said. "We’re going to make sure the whole world sees your bloody hands. We’re coming for your money. We’re coming for your puppets. And we’re going to win.
"Today we lift the voices of the children who died because you refused to allow your puppets to vote for mandatory safe storage, trigger locks, assault-weapons bans, or other common- sense devices and protections. Today we speak for the majority of Americans who correctly say your policies are bad for our nation. We see you. And we’re going to make sure everyone else does, too."
The celebrities and activists vowed in the letter to counteract "the influence of NRA money is the American political system."
Milano said the shooting at Douglas high in Parkland, Florida convinced her to get involved, Time magazine reported. Seventeen people were shot to death at the school by a lone gunman in February.
"I am the mother of two children," Milano told TIME. "To see what’s going on in this country as far as gun violence, and the lack of real fortitude to do anything about it, is keeping me up at night."
